Our 40th anniversary was today. It's hard to believe that 40 years have gone by so quickly. My wedding dress is hanging in the closet in its garment bag. I used to have Nancy's bridesmaid's dress in there, too. A couple of years ago, she encouraged me to cut it up to make a princess dress for the granddaughters. She didn't want it and I didn't want to throw it away. It made a very cute dress for "dress-up". I'm hoping that one of the granddaughters will want to wear my dress in her own wedding.
We had a wonderful party for our 3rd anniversary. Our little apartment was crowded with friends and relatives. We played stupid games and squirted "silly string" all over the place. It was so much fun. I wish we had planned more parties, but "life" got in the way. We had things to do and places to go and the parties just never happened. When the children came along, we were too busy to do much more than go out to dinner to celebrate. We had family come to dinner or we went out by ourselves.
When our 25th anniversary came up, Charlie and Alice got together with Kara and Justin and planned a wonderful party for us! It was held at the country club and just about every friend and relative came. It was great! It's hard to believe that it was 15 years ago! Where has the time gone?
Back before we married, a co-worker asked me if I had ever heard of the old saying "you've made your bed, now lie in it". I told her I had heard that before. She said for us to make our bed with rose petals and then when we have to lie in it, it will be velvety and sweet.
I think that was good advice.
