Today I was reminded of an incident that happened when Justin was in Tiger Cubs, the Boy Scouts for the youngest boys. The Tiger Cubs met once a month at a member's house and this month it was our turn. We hosted the boys and their parents down at the pond for fishing and refreshments. I had posted a sign by the mailbox that said "Tiger Cubs Here Today!" The boys and their parents had a very nice time and some very nice fish were caught (and thrown back in). By 3:00 all the boys and their parents had gone home.
Justin and I were up at the house when a knock came at the front door. No one ever comes to the front door - we always use the side kitchen door. He and I went to the door and found a young man and young woman standing there. She asked if the Tiger Cubs were still here. "No", I said, "They've all gone home." "Home?!?!" she said, surprised. I knew she and he weren't the parents of any of the boys, so I was a little concerned that they were asking about them.
She wanted to know if they were coming back and I told her no. Justin was standing beside me and he was as curious as I was. Who were these people and what did they want with his friends? She asked if having Tiger Cubs was legal in Virginia. What?!? "Yes," I told her. "Of course it's legal." Was this woman insane? That's when she floored me - she wanted to buy one! Now I understood. It was all I could do to not laugh! Justin had already scooted behind me, fearing that I was going to sell him!
I finally was able to tell her that these Tiger Cubs were little Boy Scouts and not animals. She had seen the sign down by the mailbox and the two of them decided that they wanted a tiger cub of their own.
City folks!
