I Need A Bath!

Seven years ago, we decided to buy a new bathtub. The one we had was difficult to clean because all the shine had been scrubbed away years ago. There was a gross orange rust stain down the middle from the shower and a gross orange rust stain at the drain from the faucet.

The sad thing is that out by the shed sits a wonderful old claw-footed tub! I'd love to be able to afford to have it refinished and hauled back upstairs. It was in the house originally. My grandmother used to live here (1909 - 1910) when she was teaching school across the way. I don't think that tub was here then, but maybe! I don't know when the bathroom was added, but it's clearly an addition. When we were redoing the other bedroom, we found a window in the wall that backs the bathroom. His brother had the claw-footed one removed and the modern one installed. But that's another story for another time.

Before we were able to buy one, the kitchen stove died. Instead of buying a nice new shiny bathtub, we had to buy a nice new shiny kitchen stove. It's kinda hard to take a bath in a stove. But, at least we can cook our dinners.

Move forward a few years. My birthday was coming up. He said we'd get a new bathtub. I really wanted a bathtub for a present. Truly! I did! I would have loved to ease myself down into some soothing hot water in a shiny new tub. This time, instead of a bathtub or a new stove, we ended up buying a new furnace. It's new, but not shiny. And you can't take a bath in it. But, at least we can keep the house warm.

Move forward another two years. I'm getting tired of being promised a new bathtub and getting stoves and furnaces instead! This time it was an HDTV! You can't take a bath, cook OR heat the house with a TV. He went to great lengths to make a corner cabinet to sit it on with storage for our video games. It's really nice and compliments the room. But you can't fill it with hot water and take a nice soak.

Today! Yes, Today! We went to the store and, you guessed it! We bought a nice new shiny cast-iron bathtub! It weighs an incredible 300 pounds! I still can't take a bath in it because we have it stored in the cellar until he can do some structural rehab on the bathroom floor/kitchen ceiling. I sure wouldn't want to be in the tub and crash through the floor into the kitchen. Just knowing it's down there is enough for now.

Could you imagine! Falling through the floor could take out your stove, furnace AND HDTV!

And probably the washer and dryer and refrigerator.
