We were bracing for the latest storm - snow, ice and sleety rain. The weather forecasters were warning us that it was creeping across the US and would soon blast us with all sorts of foul weather. I admit I wanted to run to the grocery store and stock up. I had that uncontrollable feverish need for toilet paper, milk, eggs and bread. I was brave, though, and I resisted. The pioneer woman in me came out. Somehow I knew that we'd survive this oncoming storm. We are of hardy stock.
On Thursday morning we waited for the forecasted 7 a.m. snow. We waited and waited. We held our collective breaths. Oh, look! I think I see a flake! Yes, yes! It's snowing!!! By this time, it was almost 9:30 a.m. Then it stopped. The TV stations were announcing school closings and still warning of the snow. Actually, the schools were already closed, waiting for the snow to start! Okaaaaay.
Later that afternoon, it began to snow in earnest. We had brief episodes of sleet, then rain, then nothing, then more lazy snowflakes twirling down. In all, we only got enough to "cover" the ground. It kinda looked like green whiskers on a pale white face. The grass wasn't fully covered with snow. We live on the side of a mountain. We should have gotten more snow. Down the mountain, in town, they got about 4". We barely got an inch.
With all the modern technology at hand, you'd think that the weather people could more accurately forecast the weather. A Nor'easter. I thought one of those was supposed to bring tons of snow. Maybe it ran out as it was creeping across the US.
They are calling for more snow this weekend. Supposedly, it will be to the east and south of us. We aren't supposed to get any measurable snow. I'm getting groceries - plus toilet paper, milk, eggs and bread.
We'll probably be dug out by spring.
