Is It Spring, Yet?

As I was driving home this afternoon with my car windows down, a lovely scent floated in the window. It was the lilac bushes that line the road I live on. Such a sweet fragrance! Spring is such a lovely time of the year. After all the rain we've had, the grass is a brilliant green. The redbud trees are strikingly beautiful against all that green grass (and green bushes) and the clear blue sky.

We have several lilac bushes around our home and I can smell them while I'm inside with the windows open. I'm going to cut a few clusters and bring them into the house. The fragrance will last for several days before I have to throw them out. It's especially nice to go to sleep with the aroma of lilacs in the bedroom.

We also have some very large bushes in the backyard that have an incredibly sweet scent. I don't know what they are called. They have skinny silvery green leaves and the branches have long sharp thorns on them. Ouch! Usually in the spring and summer these bushes are loaded with yellow jackets and other types of wasps and bees. I'm glad they are far away from the house. I almost wish he'd cut them down.

Now where are those clippers....
