Before going to church this morning, I went out to the fairgrounds to pick up my entries and to see if I won any ribbons. I entered 21 items and won 21 ribbons! And 43 (count'em!) dollars! Can you say "Happy"?
The 1st place ribbons were for a crocheted blue square doily, a scrapbook of Maggie and Emma, my blue beaded coin purse with 5,000 beads crocheted into it (whew!), my last "one-stroke" painted box, a crocheted bookmark, a crocheted hippo in a tutu (for guess who?), my blue crocheted handbag, the cross-stitched picture of Santa kissing Mrs. Claus, a crocheted scarecrow standing on a hay bale with two blackbirds sitting on him, a crocheted baby layette (for guess who?), knitted baby booties that I made for Maggie, the cutest crocheted hiking booties (for guess who?), a crocheted peach dress (Maggie's), an embroidered jacket (again, Maggie's). The last 1st place was for the crocheted bridal gown (Barbie sized). The amazing thing is that the Barbie gown also received 'BEST IN SHOW' !!!!! How's that for givin' me a swelled head???
The 2nd place ribbons were for the cross-stitched tooth pillow I made for Morgan, a tatted bookmark, a crocheted sunflower potholder and the red ladybug hat I crocheted for Maggie and Emma.
The 3rd place ribbons were for the smocked dress and the grapevine wreath. I was surprised that the smocked dress only got 3rd (I'm really not bragging or having a 'sour grapes' moment). It had smocking and also dozens, I mean dozens, of bullion roses and leaves all incorporated into the smocking and also bullion roses and leaves on the sleeve bands. If you don't know about bullion roses, let me tell you it takes a long time to make them and make them correctly. The funny thing about the judging on that dress is that the judge left a note (they usually do) saying that the inside waist seam should have been finished off. HUH? I entered it into 'smocking', not 'dress making' (they are two different divisions). And the funnier ( is 'funnier' really a word?) thing is - I usually DO finished off the inside waist seam! HA!
