Balancing Act

I am a reasonably intelligent person. I can add, subtract, multiply and divide. I can read and comprehend (usually). I can walk and chew gum at the same time. I can pat my head and rub my tummy at the same time. I can read music. I can do Suduko puzzles. I love crossword puzzles. I can add and subtract fractions easily in my head when buying fabric to make clothes. Then why, oh why, can't I balance my checkbook without using a computer program?

What makes checkbook balancing so difficult? You put the money in the bank, you write checks. In and out! Add and subtract! Last month, my statement said I only had X amount of money, but my checkbook said I had lots (LOTS) more. So I had the computer to a balance adjustment. It took away some of my money! But THIS month, my statement said I had lots (LOTS) more than my checkbook said. Now it's all back and everything is rosy. WHERE DID IT GO? On vacation? Into a black hole? Does the money flip into outer space, fly around for a couple of weeks and then just reappear?!? Hmmm...did those bank people have a party one day and use MY money for the decorations and catering?
