I'm getting ready for the fair with my entries. Years ago, Kara and I entered some items in the fair and we were surprised to find we had won ribbons! She entered 'Winnie the Pooh' characters she had handsewn (for a Girl Scout project) and won a ribbon for them. I can't remember what else she entered, but I remember she had several ribbons - and the cash to go with them!
I had entered the miniature furniture that I made for her doll house, a cat-shaped doorstop and a few others that have slipped my mind. After all, it WAS over 20 years ago! The doll house furniture won 1st place and the cat doorstop won 3rd. I have the ribbons somewhere, packed up in a box of things I didn't want to throw away. Where that box is, I can't say. I'll run across it someday.
Last year, I entered eight items and won eight ribbons and $15! The beaded crocheted bridal gown for a fashion doll, Maggie's smocked dress, crocheted wedding ornaments, a cross-stitch picture of 'Windswept Santa', and a painted glass covered tray that had some of Kara's silk wedding flowers inside all won 1st place ribbons. A painted hat box won 2nd place; a cross-stitch picture of John S. Mosby (for our school's reunion) and a crocheted doily won 3rd place ribbons.
This year, I'm entering a cross-stitch picture of Maggie and Emma when they were babies, another crocheted doily (Irish lace pineapples), Emma's doll's beaded crocheted bridal gown, another painted hatbox and Emma's smocked Easter dress.
I'm already planning what to make for next year.
