We took the Cadillac in for service the other day. It needed some new hoses and there was a leak somewhere in the power steering. After waiting for a call all day, they finally called and said it would be the next day. OK. Fine with us.
The next day, the guy called at 8:50 am and said the car was ready to be picked up. Repeat, READY TO BE PICKED UP. Doesn't that mean we could just go down, pay the bill and drive away? Can you say "not"? I had an appointment at 10:30 to get my hair cut, so we planned on getting there at 10:15, paying the bill and for me to drive away and get to my appointment by 10:30. Can you say "no way"?
We arrived at 10:15 as planned. I glanced back into the service area and there was my car - still up on the rack! Obviously, I wasn't going anywhere soon. After a few minutes, the guy said he was going to bring my car down and drive it around for me. OK. Fine. After ten minutes he still hadn't arrived. How long does it take to drive around the side of the building? Now it's 10:25. Another guy came out and said the other guy was going to drive it around the block to see if everything checks out. My unspoken question at that time was: Why the heck did you call at 8:50 to tell us the car was READY? Jimmy kept telling me to shut up because he knew I was ready to say something.
Jimmy drove me to my appointment and picked me up afterward. Twenty minutes, top. They still hadn't called to say the car was ready. We decided to take a short trip to Walmart. When we got back to the parking lot, Jimmy's phone rang. Finally, the car was ready. I wanted to ask if it was really ready, but he wouldn't let me talk to the guy.
We got back to the shop and there was my car, waiting for me. Before they could take it back, I got in it and drove away, leaving Jimmy to go inside by himself.

That's about as good as me taking my car in last week for an inspection and brake rotors turned. Except they forgot the "inspection" part.
When I called today, the last day of the month, to see how busy they were, he sort of scoffed and said, "You should have brought it in a little earlier in the month."
Luckily, the signal died before I could reply with extremely quick wit.
