I went out to the fairgrounds this morning to enter my handicrafts in the Warren Co. fair. Most of the things were crocheted - a Barbie-size crochet and lace ball gown; a sunflower potholder; a blue square doily; a bookmark with beads and ribbon; a baby's layette set (I wonder who that's for!?!); really adorable crocheted baby hiking boots; a pink hippo in a tutu; a scarecrow with black crows perched on his hat and shoulder, standing on a bale of straw with crocheted pumpkins; a blue crocheted handbag with beading; a beaded crocheted coin purse - over 5,000 beads; a peach thread-crocheted toddler's dress; a toddler's 'lady bug' hat.
I also took a tatted bookmark. I haven't done much tatting, but I thought I'd give it a try. In other department's, I entered a smocked dress, an child's embroidered jacket, a scrapbook of the granddaughters, a painted box, a cross-stitched tooth pillow (for Morgan) and a cross-stitched picture of Santa kissing Mrs. Claus.
It took the lady almost 40 minutes just to write up the crocheted things. Getting the other stuff entered didn't take as long. I was there about an hour. I had to wait for some of the ladies to arrive at their stations, so I had a little time to just chill.
Last year I had to wait a long time. The woman in front of me in line had one of those large plastic tubs (like for Christmas decorations) and it was packed! There are no chairs to sit in while waiting, but I was lucky - one of the workers offered me an extra chair that was in his way. This year, there were no extra chairs, but there was no one in line behind me.
I'm going to order my next crochet pattern for another fashion doll dress. I love the Victorian era. Those gowns are so involved and so complex. It's a challenge. I feel like I've accomplished something when I'm finished. And also relieved when I'm finished!
Now, what will I do for next year?
