Jimmy put the 17 lb turkey in the oven at 6:30 this morning. It should have cooked for about 5 - 6 hours but it was done by 10 a.m.! He put too much water in with it and by the time the turkey juices were flowing, there was about 4" of liquid in the pan. I think the turkey was par-boiled!
I had prepared the broccoli casserole the night before and just reheated it in the microwave. I made the mashed potatoes and gravy, popped the rolls into the oven after I took the dressing out and was basically ready for Kara, Chris, Maggie and Emma.
They came in the door - Emma with a big smile on her cute face and Maggie looking grumpy. I asked her what was wrong but she didn't answer. When I tried to hug her, she mumbled something about wanting her mommy! Well, fine - go ahead and get your mommy! I knew something was wrong but didn't know what. I found out when she headed for the trash can and vomited.
That's all we needed with the turkey dinner on the table and rolls hot from the oven. She obviously had caught Emma's Monday morning illness. Emma had gotten up around 4:30 a.m. and gone to her mother's bed where she promptly vomited all over Kara and the bed.
It's nice when the kids have moved and gotten homes of their own!
We got Maggie settled on the couch with a blanket, pillow and a juice glass of Sprite. While we were eating, she fell asleep. Dinner was delicious, I might add! Turkey, mashed potatoes and gravy, rolls, broccoli casserole, apple/cranberry casserole and cranberry sauce. I was determined that I wasn't going to cook too much food this year. It was perfect. Too bad Maggie missed it.
After they left, Jimmy took a nap while I knitted on the doll sweaters. After we had leftovers (yum!) we played Tetris. It's now almost 8 p.m. and I'm ready for a hot bath, pjs and slippers.

Yeah, not really making this parenthod thing sound awesome.
In time, all of this becomes good memories. Really good memories. Really. Truly.
