Baby, Where Are You?

We're still waiting for the birth of our third grandchild. Time is running out! It's almost 2009 and there's only one day left.

Our daughter was 12 days late, but our son was a week early. She had me standing by the empty crib wondering if the baby would ever come, or would I be pregnant forever. I felt like a swollen sausage. My shoes didn't fit anymore, my maternity clothes were stretched to an inch of bursting at the seams and they were just plain ugly now. I was sick of wearing elastic paneled pants. I was quite proud, tho, of my enormous (for me, anyway) breasts! I went from a 32 B to a 36 C! It didn't last very long after she was born, but Hey, flaunt 'em if ya got'em! She finally showed up on May 3rd.

Our son was due on July 3rd. I wasn't really prepared when he came a week early. His room wasn't ready. It was still in the construction stage. The walls were torn out, the closet was just framed in and there was no ceiling yet. Jimmy had torn out all the old plaster and horsehair walls and was in the process of drywalling it all with new window trim and baseboards. The closet was the best! The old closet had three nails hammered into the wall and you had to hang the clothes on them, one on top of the other. He built the new closet in front of the old one, so the old one was still there but now it was a great storage spot.

I ended up staying at my Mom's apartment. Talk about luxury! She basically did everything. She took care of 5-year old Kara, fixed all my food, brought the baby to me for nursing, took him back for diaper changes, wrapped him up tightly and tucked him in the corner of the living room chair and pushed the chair over to the window so he could get sunlight. He was a little yellow and that was the remedy. All I had to do was - well, nothing! Ahhhh. It was a sad day when Jimmy declared the room ready and took us home. Rats! Queen-for-a-day had lost her crown!

I know Justin and Nicole will do fine with their new baby. The first few weeks are a little rocky but love wins out. They just need to keep their eye on the prize - a baby who sleeps through the night!

Think it will hurry things up a bit if I go ahead and mail the gift card?
